Be on guard for bogus Trading Standards' Officer
Norfolk businesses are being warned to watch out for a man falsely claiming to be from Norfolk County Council's Trading Standards Service.
The County Council's Trading Standards is urging businesses in Norfolk to be on their guard following two occasions on Monday (August 24) and Wednesday (August 26) when a member of the public claimed to be a Trading Standards' officer while at retail outlets in the county.
The incidents took place at businesses in Norwich and Halvergate.
Norfolk Trading Standards is reminding businesses across the county that legitimate officers would always carry identification, and would never abuse their position for personal gain.
Any business that has any concerns about the conduct of an officer or their identity is encouraged to ask to see the person's identification and contact the County Council's Trading Standards department on 0344 800 8013. Every Trading Standards' Officer also carries instructions on how individuals and businesses can verify their identify.
Business are also encouraged to report any incidents to Norfolk Trading Standards Service, and give details of the name and address given and a description of the individual.
